Multiple serious crashes have caused major disruptions on Queensland’s Bruce Highway today, with emergency crews responding to separate incidents near Tiaro and Coolbie. Driver Fighting for Life After Tiaro Crash
One of the most serious crashes occurred near Tiaro, where a 24-year-old man was critically injured in a head-on collision at the Black Swamp Creek Bridge on the Bruce Highway.
The crash happened at approximately 6:40 a.m. when a red Mitsubishi Outlander collided with a Mitsubishi Canter truck.
The impact caused the truck to roll, while the driver of the Outlander was ejected from the vehicle.
Emergency crews treated the injured man at the scene before he was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with critical injuries.
Authorities said he suffered serious head, arm, leg, and internal injuries.
The truck driver, a 49-year-old man from Battery Hill, and a 43-year-old passenger from Little Mountain were not physically injured.
Police believe fatigue may have contributed to the crash, with investigators alleging that the Outlander crossed onto the wrong side of the highway.
The southbound lane was closed for several hours as emergency crews and crash investigators worked at the scene.
Two Men Injured in Coolbie Crash
A separate serious accident occurred on the Bruce Highway near Coolbie, close to the Studs Road intersection, at approximately 1:40 p.m.
The crash involved two utility vehicles, with one reportedly rolling during the collision.
A man in his 30s was airlifted to Townsville University Hospital in critical condition aboard a QGAir rescue helicopter.
Another man in his 50s was initially trapped in the crash and suffered head injuries. He was also transported to Townsville University Hospital for treatment.
The Bruce Highway was closed for several hours while emergency crews worked to free those involved, treat the injured, and investigate the circumstances of the crash.
By approximately 7:30 p.m., one lane had reopened, although motorists continued to face delays.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
